One person killed, and one other person injured near 8300 S DORCHESTER AVE in Avalon Park

A driver was killed after a Sunday early morning angle collision in Avalon Park on May 16, 2021 at 12:35 AM.

The crash occurred near 8300 S DORCHESTER AVE, on an undivided road. The posted speed limit was 25 mph. There was a traffic light. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to disregarding traffic signals.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

  • A 2007 Lexus RX350 was heading east. The police report described the driver, an unknown age male, as disregarding traffic controls/signals. His airbag deployed and he was totally ejected; he was killed.
  • A 2012 Chevrolet Cruze was heading south and was hit in the front. The driver, an 18-year-old man, was wearing a seat belt and his airbag deployed from the side; he reportedly suffered unspecified injuries.

Police were notified at 12:36 AM and made a report on scene. This was the 691st injurious crash reported in May 2021, and the 4,908th injurious crash reported in 2021. It was the 34th fatal crash for 2021.
