One pedestrian killed near 1100 N LARAMIE AVE in Austin

A pedestrian was killed after a Monday afternoon hit-and-run collision with a parked motor vehicle in Austin on January 11, 2021 at 1:05 PM.

The crash occurred near 1100 N LARAMIE AVE, at a four-way intersection. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a stop sign. The weather was clear and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to traveling the wrong way or on the wrong side; and, secondarily, to failing to yield right of way.

There were three motor vehicles involved in the crash:

• A Ford was heading east. The police report described the driver, an unknown age female, as failing to yield. The police report did not have additional details about the driver.
• A passenger vehicle of unknown make was heading east and was hit in the front. The police report described the driver, an unknown age male, as failing to yield. The police report did not have additional details about the driver.
• A 2011 Honda Accord was heading south and was hit in the front-right-corner. The driver, a 61-year-old man, was wearing a seat belt and his airbag did not deploy; he was uninjured.

A 75-year-old man (pedestrian) was in a crosswalk. The police report described him as crossing with the signal; he was killed.

There was one other vehicle involved but not being driven: A 2008 Nissan Rogue, hit in the front-right-corner.

Police were notified at 1:05 PM. This was the 326th injurious crash reported in January 2021, and the 326th injurious crash reported in 2021. It was the 4th fatal crash for 2021.
