One pedestrian killed near 8120 S HOUSTON AVE in South Chicago

A pedestrian was killed after a Thursday early morning hit-and-run collision in South Chicago on July 15, 2021 at 4:02 AM.

The crash occurred near 8120 S HOUSTON AVE, on a one-way road. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. It was dark. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to driving after drinking (no arrest was made); and, secondarily, to road construction/maintenance.

A 2012 Honda Civic was heading south while pulling out of a parking space. The driver, a 30-year-old man, was wearing a seat belt and his airbag did not deploy; he was uninjured.

The police report described the pedestrian, a 41-year-old woman, as reportedly intoxicated and being under the influence of alcohol and drugs; she was killed.

Police were notified at 4:02 AM. This was the 757th injurious crash reported in July 2021, and the 8,157th injurious crash reported in 2021. It was the 65th fatal crash for 2021.
