Two people killed near 4100 S PULASKI RD in Archer Heights

A driver and a passenger were killed after a Friday early morning turning collision in Archer Heights on March 23, 2018 at 1:16 AM.

The crash occurred near 4100 S PULASKI RD, at a center turn lane. The posted speed limit was 35 mph. There was a traffic light. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to exceeding the posted speed limit; and, secondarily, to failing to yield right of way.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

  • A Freightliner operated commercially was heading south while turning left. The police report described the driver, a 45-year-old man, as failing to yield. He was wearing a seat belt and his airbag did not deploy; he was uninjured.
  • A Yamaha was heading north and was hit in the total (all areas). The police report described the driver, a 22-year-old man, as going too fast for conditions. He was wearing a helmet and he was totally ejected; he was killed. A 20-year-old female passenger was wearing a helmet and was totally ejected; she was killed.

Police were notified at 1:16 AM. This was the 872nd injurious crash reported in March 2018, and the 3,217th injurious crash reported in 2018. It was the 19th fatal crash for 2018.
