One person killed, one person severely injured near 8915 S STONY ISLAND AVE in Calumet Heights

A passenger was killed and a driver was severely injured after a Sunday afternoon collision with a parked motor vehicle in Calumet Heights on May 7, 2023 at 1:13 PM.

The crash occurred near 8915 S STONY ISLAND AVE, on a divided road. The posted speed limit was 35 mph. The weather was clear and the roadway was dry. The police report did not specify a cause for the crash.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

• A 2020 Chevrolet Storm was heading north. The driver, a 68-year-old man, reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries; his airbag deployed from the front. A 63-year-old male passenger was killed; his airbag deployed from the front.
• A 2019 GMC Terrain was heading north and was hit in the side-right-rear. The driver, a 56-year-old man, was uninjured. One other passenger was uninjured.
