One person killed near 4750 S PULASKI RD in Archer Heights

A driver was killed after a Wednesday early morning collision with a parked motor vehicle in Archer Heights on May 3, 2023 at 1:00 AM.

The crash occurred near 4750 S PULASKI RD, on a divided road. The posted speed limit was 35 mph. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to a driver's physical condition; and, secondarily, to failing to reduce speed to avoid a crash.

A 2004 Honda Pilot was heading south. The police report described the driver, a 22-year-old man, as being under the influence of alcohol. His airbag deployed and he was totally ejected; he was killed.

There were six other vehicles involved but not being driven:

• A 2000 Toyota Tundra, hit in the rear.
• A 2014 Honda Civic, hit in the rear.
• A 2009 Toyota Corolla, hit in the rear.
• A 2007 Ford Ranger, hit in the rear.
• A 2017 Buick Regal, hit in the rear.
• A 2017 Honda Accord, hit in the rear.

Police were notified at 1:02 AM and made a report on scene. This was the 80th injurious crash reported in May 2023, and the 4,782nd injurious crash reported in 2023. It was the 50th fatal crash for 2023.
