One person killed near 520 S WESTERN AVE in Little Italy, Uic
A passenger was killed after a Friday night head on collision in Little Italy, Uic on June 17, 2022 at 11:47 PM.
The crash occurred near 520 S WESTERN AVE, on a divided road. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to evasive action taken to avoid an animal, object, or non-motorist; and, secondarily, to distraction from outside the vehicle.
There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:
- A 2007 Infiniti G35 was heading north while driving the wrong way. The police report described the driver, a 29-year-old man, as going the wrong way. His airbag deployed; he was uninjured. A 22-year-old male passenger was killed; his airbag deployed. One other passenger was uninjured.
- A 2008 Ford Escape was heading south while avoiding vehicles or objects and was hit in the front-right-corner. The driver, a 55-year-old woman, was uninjured.
Police were notified at 11:57 PM and made a report on scene. This was the 872nd injurious crash reported in June 2022, and the 6,827th injurious crash reported in 2022. It was the 58th fatal crash for 2022.
