One person killed, and one other person injured near 7000 N WESTERN AVE in West Ridge

A passenger was killed after a Sunday evening hit-and-run angle collision in West Ridge on September 5, 2021 at 7:10 PM. One other person reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.

The crash occurred near 7000 N WESTERN AVE, on a divided road. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. The weather was clear and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to disregarding traffic signals; and, secondarily, to failing to reduce speed to avoid a crash.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

  • A 2015 Yamaha was heading north. The police report described the driver, a 28-year-old man, as disregarding traffic controls/signals. He was not wearing a helmet and he was totally ejected; he reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries. A 19-year-old male passenger was not wearing a helmet; he was killed.
  • A Honda Civic was heading east and was hit in the side-right-rear. The police report did not have details about the driver.

Police were notified at 7:10 PM. This was the 246th injurious crash reported in September 2021, and the 10,882nd injurious crash reported in 2021. It was the 96th fatal crash for 2021.
