Two people killed, three people severely injured, and one other person injured near 8201 S STONY ISLAND AVE in Avalon Park
A driver and a passenger were killed; and three other passengers were severely injured after a Saturday night angle collision in Avalon Park on October 30, 2021 at 11:38 PM. One other person reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.
The crash occurred near 8201 S STONY ISLAND AVE. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to failing to reduce speed to avoid a crash; and, secondarily, to failing to yield right of way.
There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:
- A 2018 Dodge Charger was heading north. The driver, a 28-year-old man, reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries; his airbag deployed.
- A 2015 Nissan was heading west and was hit in the side-left. The police report described the driver, a 49-year-old woman, as failing to yield. Her airbag deployed; she was killed. A 76-year-old male passenger was killed; his airbag deployed. A 68-year-old female passenger reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries; her airbag deployed. A 14-year-old male passenger reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries; his airbag deployed. A 44-year-old male passenger reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries.
There was one other vehicle involved but not being driven: A 2010 Chevrolet, hit in the rear.
Police were notified at 11:38 PM and made a report on scene. This was the 1,507th injurious crash reported in October 2021, and the 13,725th injurious crash reported in 2021. It was the 122nd fatal crash for 2021.
