One person killed, two people severely injured, and one other person injured near 1637 N HUMBOLDT BLVD in Humboldt Park

A passenger was killed; and a driver and another passenger were severely injured after a Friday early morning hit-and-run head on collision in Humboldt Park on June 8, 2018 at 3:50 AM. One other person reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.

The crash occurred near 1637 N HUMBOLDT BLVD, on a divided road. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to traveling the wrong way or on the wrong side; and, secondarily, to driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs (an arrest was made).

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

  • A 2000 Toyota Avalon was heading south while driving the wrong way. The police report described the driver, a 25-year-old man, as going the wrong way and having been drinking. His airbag deployed from the front and he was trapped; he reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.
  • A 2012 Toyota Camry operated by a rideshare service was heading north and was hit in the front. The driver, a 32-year-old woman, reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries; her airbag deployed from the front and she was partially ejected. A 23-year-old female passenger was killed; her airbag deployed from the front and she was trapped. A 30-year-old male passenger reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries; his airbag deployed from the front and he was trapped.

Police were notified at 3:50 AM. This was the 368th injurious crash reported in June 2018, and the 6,816th injurious crash reported in 2018. It was the 41st fatal crash for 2018.
