One cyclist severely injured near 505 N LAKE SHORE DR in Streeterville

A cyclist was severely injured after a Wednesday evening collision in Streeterville on October 27, 2021 at 8:34 PM.

The crash occurred near 505 N LAKE SHORE DR, at a four-way intersection. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to disregarding traffic signals; and, secondarily, to failing to yield right of way.

A 2020 Honda Odyssey was heading west and was hit in the front. The driver, a 47-year-old woman, was uninjured; her airbag did not deploy.

A 32-year-old man (cyclist) was wearing a helmet and using a light source. The police report described him as crossing against the signal and disregarding traffic controls/signals; he reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries.

Police were notified at 8:35 PM and made a report on scene. This was the 1,316th injurious crash reported in October 2021, and the 13,534th injurious crash reported in 2021.
