One person killed near 5800 S UNION AVE in Englewood
A driver was killed after a Monday evening turning collision in Englewood on July 30, 2018 at 6:20 PM.
The crash occurred near 5800 S UNION AVE, on a divided road. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. The weather was clear and the roadway was dry but reportedly had a worn surface. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to failing to yield right of way; and, secondarily, to failing to reduce speed to avoid a crash.
There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:
- A 2009 Suzuki X-90 (sport Utility) was heading south. The police report described the driver, a 46-year-old man, as going too fast for conditions. He was wearing a helmet and he was totally ejected; he was killed.
- A 2009 Pontiac G6 was heading northwest while turning left and was hit in the front-right. The police report described the driver, a 32-year-old woman, as failing to yield. She was wearing a seat belt and her airbag did not deploy; she was uninjured.
Police were notified at 6:22 PM and made a report on scene. This was the 1,507th injurious crash reported in July 2018, and the 9,449th injurious crash reported in 2018. It was the 65th fatal crash for 2018.
