One person killed, one person severely injured near 2000 W AUGUSTA BLVD in Ukrainian Village

A driver was killed and another driver was severely injured after a Saturday early morning angle collision in Ukrainian Village on December 19, 2020 at 3:23 AM.

The crash occurred near 2000 W AUGUSTA BLVD, at a four-way intersection. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs (an arrest was made); and, secondarily, to disregarding traffic signals.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

• A 2019 Mazda MAZDA3 was heading east. The police report described the driver, a 23-year-old man, as disregarding traffic controls/signals and being under the influence of alcohol. He was wearing a seat belt and his airbag deployed; he reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries.
• A 2016 Toyota Camry was heading north and was hit in the side-left. The driver, a 33-year-old man, was killed; his airbag deployed.

There was one other vehicle involved but not being driven: A 2006 Honda Odyssey, hit in the front-right-corner.

Police were notified at 3:23 AM and made a report on scene. This was the 607th injurious crash reported in December 2020, and the 13,766th injurious crash reported in 2020. It was the 129th fatal crash for 2020.
