One person killed near 6900 S SOUTH CHICAGO AVE in Grand Crossing

A driver was killed after a Saturday evening sideswipe same direction collision in Grand Crossing on September 2, 2023 at 8:34 PM.

The crash occurred near 6900 S SOUTH CHICAGO AVE, on a divided road. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. It was dark, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to failing to reduce speed to avoid a crash.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

• A 2015 Toyota Corolla was heading northwest. The police report described the driver, a 23-year-old woman, as being under the influence of alcohol. Her airbag did not deploy; she was uninjured. One other passenger was uninjured.
• A 2022 CAN-AM was heading northwest and was hit in the total (all areas). The driver, an unknown age female, was killed.

Police were notified at 8:37 PM and made a report on scene. This was the 114th injurious crash reported in September 2023, and the 10,912th injurious crash reported in 2023. It was the 94th fatal crash for 2023.
