One person killed near 428 S LAKE SHORE DR SB in Grant Park

A driver was killed after a Wednesday night rear end collision in Grant Park on August 19, 2026 at 11:00 PM.

The crash occurred near 428 S LAKE SHORE DR SB, on a divided road. The posted speed limit was 40 mph. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to driving after drinking (no arrest was made); and, secondarily, to reckless, careless, or aggressive driving.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

• A 2016 Ford Fusion was heading south while passing another vehicle. The police report described the driver, a 25-year-old woman, as being under the influence of alcohol. Her airbag deployed; she was uninjured.
• A 2010 Yamaha was heading south. The driver, a 49-year-old woman, was wearing a DOT-compliant motorcycle helmet and was totally ejected; she was killed.

Police were notified at 11:05 PM and made a report on scene. This was the 987th injurious crash reported in August 2026, and the 11,610th injurious crash reported in 2026. It was the 61st fatal crash for 2026.
