One person killed near 7400 S YATES BLVD in South Shore

A driver was killed after a Tuesday night collision with a parked motor vehicle in South Shore on August 28, 2018 at 11:43 PM.

The crash occurred near 7400 S YATES BLVD, on an undivided road. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a stop sign. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was rainy, and the roadway was wet. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to distraction from outside the vehicle.

A 2018 Honda Civic was heading south. The driver, a 23-year-old woman, was killed; her airbag deployed from the front.

There were six other vehicles involved but not being driven:

• A 2016 Toyota Corolla, hit in the side-left.
• A 2003 Dodge Caravan, hit in the side-left.
• A 2017 Nissan Versa, hit in the side-left.
• A 2015 Hyundai Elantra, hit in the side-left.
• A 2008 GMC Envoy, hit in the rear.
• A 2003 Chevrolet Malibu, hit in the rear.

Police were notified at 11:43 PM and made a report on scene. This was the 1,395th injurious crash reported in August 2018, and the 10,889th injurious crash reported in 2018. It was the 75th fatal crash for 2018.
