One pedestrian killed, one person severely injured, and five other people injured, including 3 pedestrians near 1600 E 95TH ST in South Deering

A pedestrian was killed and a passenger was severely injured after a Tuesday evening turning collision in South Deering on April 10, 2018 at 6:20 PM.

The crash occurred near 1600 E 95TH ST, on an undivided road. The posted speed limit was 35 mph. There was a traffic light. The weather was clear and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to failing to reduce speed to avoid a crash; and, secondarily, to failing to yield right of way.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

• A 2017 BMW X5 was heading north. The driver, a 30-year-old man, was wearing a seat belt and his airbag deployed; he reportedly suffered unspecified injuries.
• A 2013 Chevrolet Malibu was heading east while turning left and was hit in the front. The police report described the driver, a 24-year-old man, as failing to yield. He was wearing a seat belt and his airbag deployed; he reportedly suffered unspecified injuries. A 25-year-old female passenger was wearing a seat belt and her airbag deployed; she reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries.

A 67-year-old woman (pedestrian) was off the roadway; she was killed.

A 5-year-old girl (pedestrian) was off the roadway; she reportedly suffered unspecified injuries.

A 20-year-old woman (pedestrian) was off the roadway; she reportedly suffered unspecified injuries.

A 21-year-old woman (pedestrian) was off the roadway. The police report described her as going too fast for conditions; she reportedly suffered unspecified injuries.

Police were notified at 6:20 PM. This was the 409th injurious crash reported in April 2018, and the 3,950th injurious crash reported in 2018. It was the 29th fatal crash for 2018.
