One cyclist killed near 658 N OGDEN AVE in West Town

A cyclist was killed after a Wednesday night collision in West Town on June 13, 2018 at 9:30 PM.

The crash occurred near 658 N OGDEN AVE, on a road divided by a median barrier. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to failing to yield right of way; and, secondarily, to inadequate driving skill, knowledge, or experience.

A 2014 Lexus ES350 operated by a rideshare service was heading east while turning right. The police report described the driver, a 40-year-old man, as failing to yield. His airbag did not deploy; he was uninjured. One other passenger was uninjured.

A 41-year-old man (cyclist) was using a light source and he was trapped; he was killed.

Police were notified at 9:59 PM and made a report on scene. This was the 645th injurious crash reported in June 2018, and the 7,093rd injurious crash reported in 2018. It was the 45th fatal crash for 2018.
