One person killed, one person severely injured near 4268 W MONTROSE AVE in Irving Park

A passenger was killed and a driver was severely injured after a Sunday night turning collision in Irving Park on March 27, 2022 at 10:15 PM.

The crash occurred near 4268 W MONTROSE AVE, on an undivided road. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to an improper turn or failure to signal; and, secondarily, to improper overtaking or passing.

There were three motor vehicles involved in the crash:

• A 2013 GMC Acadia was heading east while turning left. The police report described the driver, a 38-year-old man, as attempting an improper turn. He was uninjured.
• A 1995 Acura CL was heading west while passing another vehicle and was hit in the front-right-corner. The police report described the driver, a 22-year-old man, as attempting to pass improperly. His airbag deployed from the front; he reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries. A 20-year-old male passenger was killed; his airbag deployed from the front.
• A 2003 Nissan Sentra was heading east and was hit in the front. The police report did not have details about the driver.

Police were notified at 10:18 PM and made a report on scene. This was the 1,022nd injurious crash reported in March 2022, and the 3,073rd injurious crash reported in 2022. It was the 30th fatal crash for 2022.
