One person killed, and five other people injured near 325 S WESTERN AVE in United Center

A passenger was killed after a Thursday early morning hit-and-run rear end collision in United Center on May 27, 2021 at 12:02 AM. 5 other people reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.

The crash occurred near 325 S WESTERN AVE, on a road divided by a median barrier. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to failing to reduce speed to avoid a crash.

There were three motor vehicles involved in the crash:

An 18-year-old female passenger was wearing a seat belt and her airbag deployed; she reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.
• A 2008 Saturn VUE was heading south and was hit in the front-left-corner. The driver, a 59-year-old woman, was wearing a seat belt and her airbag did not deploy; she reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries. A 51-year-old female passenger was wearing a seat belt and her airbag did not deploy; she reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries. A 24-year-old male passenger was not wearing a seat belt; he reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.

There were four other vehicles involved but not being driven:

• A 2005 Ford Taurus, hit in the front-left-corner.
• A 2008 Chevrolet Equinox, hit in the rear-left-corner.
• A GMC Terrain, hit in the side-left-rear.
• A 2000 Honda, hit in the rear.

Police were notified at 12:02 AM. This was the 1,256th injurious crash reported in May 2021, and the 5,473rd injurious crash reported in 2021. It was the 43rd fatal crash for 2021.
