One person killed, one person severely injured, and three other people injured near 7900 S DR MARTIN LUTHER KING JR DR in Chatham

A driver was killed and a passenger was severely injured after a Wednesday night angle collision in Chatham on October 28, 2020 at 11:58 PM. 3 other people reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.

The crash occurred near 7900 S DR MARTIN LUTHER KING JR DR, at a four-way intersection. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to disregarding traffic signals.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

• A 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee was heading east. The police report described the driver, a 35-year-old man, as disregarding traffic controls/signals. His airbag deployed from the front; he reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.
• A 2004 Land Rover Land Rover was heading north and was hit in the side-left. The driver, a 54-year-old man, was killed; his airbag deployed from the front. An unknown age passenger reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries. A 51-year-old male passenger reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries; his airbag deployed from the side. One of his passengers reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.

Police were notified at 11:58 PM. This was the 1,205th injurious crash reported in October 2020, and the 11,991st injurious crash reported in 2020. It was the 115th fatal crash for 2020.
