One person killed, and one other person injured near 64 W LOWER WACKER DR in The Loop

A passenger was killed after a Thursday night turning collision in The Loop on August 14, 2025 at 11:30 PM. One other person reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.

The crash occurred near 64 W LOWER WACKER DR, at a four-way intersection. The posted speed limit was 35 mph. There was a traffic light. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to disregarding traffic signals.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

• A 2004 Pontiac GTO was heading east. The police report described the driver, a 19-year-old man, as disregarding traffic controls/signals. His airbag deployed; he reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries. An 18-year-old female passenger was killed; her airbag deployed.
• A Jeep Wrangler was heading southeast while turning left and was hit in the front-right-corner. The driver, a 56-year-old man, was uninjured; his airbag deployed from the front. One other passenger was uninjured.

Police were notified at 11:30 PM. This was the 837th injurious crash reported in August 2025, and the 11,010th injurious crash reported in 2025. It was the 53rd fatal crash for 2025.
