One person killed, one person severely injured near 799 N HALSTED ST in West Town

A passenger was killed and a driver was severely injured after a Sunday early morning rear end collision in West Town on July 10, 2022 at 3:00 AM.

The crash occurred near 799 N HALSTED ST, on a road divided by a median barrier. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report did not specify a cause for the crash.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

  • A 2005 Yamaha was heading north. The driver, a 41-year-old man, reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries; his airbag did not deploy. A 39-year-old male passenger was killed.
