One person killed, one person severely injured near 7500 S SOUTH CHICAGO AVE in Grand Crossing

A driver was killed and another driver was severely injured after a Saturday night angle collision in Grand Crossing on March 21, 2026 at 10:40 PM.

The crash occurred near 7500 S SOUTH CHICAGO AVE, at a four-way intersection. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to disregarding traffic signals.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

  • A 2017 Ford Explorer was heading southeast. The police report described the driver, a 43-year-old man, as disregarding traffic controls/signals. His airbag deployed; he was killed.
  • A 2011 Mercedes-Benz E-Class was heading east while starting in traffic and was hit in the side-left. The driver, a 61-year-old man, reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries; his airbag deployed.

Police were notified at 12:30 AM on March 22 and made a report on scene. This was the 992nd injurious crash reported in March 2026, and the 3,515th injurious crash reported in 2026. It was the 20th fatal crash for 2026.
