One person killed, and one other person injured near 1350 N LAKE SHORE DR SB in Gold Coast

A driver was killed after a Thursday early morning collision with a fixed object in Gold Coast on January 18, 2024 at 3:08 AM.

The crash occurred near 1350 N LAKE SHORE DR SB, on a road divided by a median barrier. The posted speed limit was 45 mph. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was snowy, and the roadway was wet. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to using a cell phone; and, secondarily, to failing to reduce speed to avoid a crash.

A 2016 Honda HR-V was heading south. The police report described the driver, a 31-year-old man, as using a cell phone. He was not wearing a seat belt, his airbag deployed from the side, and he was totally ejected; he was killed. A 29-year-old male passenger was wearing a seat belt and his airbag did not deploy; he reportedly suffered unspecified injuries.

Police were notified at 3:12 AM and made a report on scene. This was the 623rd injurious crash reported in January 2024, and the 623rd injurious crash reported in 2024. It was the 1st fatal crash for 2024.
