One pedestrian killed, one pedestrian severely injured near 7100 S DAMEN AVE in Englewood

A pedestrian was killed and another pedestrian was severely injured after a Thursday evening collision in Englewood on April 19, 2018 at 5:32 PM.

The crash occurred near 7100 S DAMEN AVE, at a center turn lane. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. The weather was clear and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to failing to yield right of way.

A 2016 Dodge Caravan was heading west while turning left. The police report described the driver, a 69-year-old woman, as failing to yield. Her airbag did not deploy and her vision was reportedly blinded by sunlight; she was uninjured.

A 2-year-old boy (pedestrian) was killed.

A 23-year-old woman (pedestrian) was in a crosswalk; she reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries.

Police were notified at 5:32 PM and made a report on scene. This was the 804th injurious crash reported in April 2018, and the 4,345th injurious crash reported in 2018. It was the 31st fatal crash for 2018.
