One person killed, and one other person injured near 8700 S JEFFERY BLVD in Calumet Heights

A driver was killed after a Friday morning angle collision in Calumet Heights on February 18, 2022 at 11:14 AM. One other person reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.

The crash occurred near 8700 S JEFFERY BLVD, at a four-way intersection. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. The weather was clear and the roadway was wet. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to failing to yield right of way.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

• A 2004 Honda CR-V was heading south. The police report described the driver, a 79-year-old man, as failing to yield. His airbag deployed from the front; he was killed.
• A 2014 Freightliner was heading east and was hit in the side-right. The driver, a 61-year-old woman, reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries; her airbag did not deploy.

Police were notified at 11:14 AM and made a report on scene. This was the 583rd injurious crash reported in February 2022, and the 1,644th injurious crash reported in 2022. It was the 19th fatal crash for 2022.
