One person killed, one person severely injured, and five other people injured near 1598 N CENTRAL AVE in Austin

A passenger was killed and a driver was severely injured after a Saturday morning angle collision in Austin on March 8, 2025 at 5:06 AM. One other person reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.

The crash occurred near 1598 N CENTRAL AVE, at a four-way intersection. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. It was dark but with streetlights and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to disregarding traffic signals.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

  • A 2010 Honda Accord was heading east. The police report described the driver, a 42-year-old man, as disregarding traffic controls/signals. His airbag deployed; he reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries. A 41-year-old male passenger was killed; his airbag deployed.
  • A 2006 NEW Flyer operated by the CTA was heading south and was hit in the front. The driver, a 50-year-old man, reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries. An unknown age male passenger reportedly suffered unspecified injuries; his airbag did not deploy. Three of his passengers reportedly suffered unspecified injuries.

Police were notified at 5:06 AM and made a report on scene. This was the 332nd injurious crash reported in March 2025, and the 2,732nd injurious crash reported in 2025. It was the 10th fatal crash for 2025.
