Two people killed, one person severely injured near 2100 E 103RD ST in South Deering

A driver and a passenger were killed; and another driver was severely injured after a Sunday early morning head on collision in South Deering on July 29, 2018 at 1:18 AM.

The crash occurred near 2100 E 103RD ST, on an undivided road. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs (an arrest was made); and, secondarily, to reckless, careless, or aggressive driving.

There were four motor vehicles involved in the crash:

  • A 1999 Chevrolet was heading east. The police report described the driver, a 30-year-old man, as being under the influence of alcohol. He reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries. One other passenger was uninjured.
  • A 2016 Dodge was heading west and was hit in the front-left. The driver, a 63-year-old man, was killed; his airbag deployed. A 60-year-old female passenger was killed; her airbag deployed.
  • A 2011 Chevrolet was heading west and was hit in the front-left. The driver, an 80-year-old man, was uninjured; his airbag deployed. One other passenger was uninjured.
  • A 1997 Buick Lesabre was heading east and was hit in the front-left. The driver, a 45-year-old man, was uninjured; his airbag deployed.

Police were notified at 1:18 AM. This was the 1,427th injurious crash reported in July 2018, and the 9,369th injurious crash reported in 2018. It was the 63rd fatal crash for 2018.
