One person killed near 799 W 51ST ST in New City

A driver was killed after a Tuesday morning turning collision in New City on August 13, 2019 at 10:03 AM.

The crash occurred near 799 W 51ST ST, at a four-way intersection. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. The weather was overcast and the roadway was dry. The police report did not specify a cause for the crash.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

• A 2003 Honda was heading east. The police report described the driver, a 43-year-old man, as going too fast for conditions. He was not wearing a helmet and he was totally ejected; he was killed.
• A 2009 Kenworth operated commercially was heading southwest while turning left and was hit in the rear. The driver, a 61-year-old man, was wearing a seat belt and his airbag did not deploy; he was uninjured.

Police were notified at 10:06 AM and made a report on scene. This was the 650th injurious crash reported in August 2019, and the 9,842nd injurious crash reported in 2019. It was the 60th fatal crash for 2019.
