One person killed, four people severely injured near 7400 S ASHLAND AVE in Englewood

A passenger was killed; and two drivers and two other passengers were severely injured after a Sunday night angle collision in Englewood on November 7, 2021 at 9:01 PM.

The crash occurred near 7400 S ASHLAND AVE, at a four-way intersection. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to disregarding traffic signals.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

• A 2021 Chevrolet Express was heading south. The police report described the driver, a 25-year-old man, as disregarding traffic controls/signals. His airbag deployed; he reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries. A 26-year-old male passenger was killed; his airbag deployed. A 22-year-old female passenger reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries; her airbag deployed.
• A 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche was heading east and was hit in the front. The driver, an unknown age female, reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries; her airbag deployed. A 37-year-old male passenger reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries; his airbag deployed.

Police were notified at 9:02 PM and made a report on scene. This was the 348th injurious crash reported in November 2021, and the 14,129th injurious crash reported in 2021. It was the 127th fatal crash for 2021.
