One pedestrian killed, one pedestrian severely injured, and one other person injured near 1700 W VAN BUREN ST in United Center

A pedestrian was killed and another pedestrian was severely injured after a Wednesday morning hit-and-run collision in United Center on March 13, 2024 at 11:40 AM. One other person reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.

The crash occurred near 1700 W VAN BUREN ST, at a parking lot. The posted speed limit was 10 mph. The weather was clear and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to a driver's physical condition; and, secondarily, to inadequate driving skill, knowledge, or experience.

A 2004 Toyota Avalon was heading south. The police report described the driver, an 89-year-old woman, as going too fast for conditions. Her airbag deployed from the front; she reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.

A 26-year-old woman (pedestrian) was off the roadway; she was killed.

A 65-year-old man (pedestrian) was off the roadway; he reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries.

Police were notified at 11:40 AM. This was the 574th injurious crash reported in March 2024, and the 2,954th injurious crash reported in 2024. It was the 17th fatal crash for 2024.
