One pedestrian killed, one pedestrian severely injured near 5659 S RACINE AVE in Englewood

A pedestrian was killed and another pedestrian was severely injured after a Thursday morning hit-and-run collision in Englewood on October 18, 2018 at 11:18 AM.

The crash occurred near 5659 S RACINE AVE, on a divided road. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. The weather was clear and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to improper lane usage; and, secondarily, to failing to reduce speed to avoid a crash.

A vehicle of unknown make was heading south. The police report described the driver, an unknown age person, as going the wrong way. The police report did not have additional details about the driver.

A 52-year-old woman (pedestrian) was in a crosswalk and wearing contrasting clothing. The police report described her as playing in the roadway; she was killed.

A 19-year-old man (pedestrian) was in a crosswalk and wearing contrasting clothing; he reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries.

Police were notified at 11:20 AM and made a report on scene. This was the 825th injurious crash reported in October 2018, and the 13,283rd injurious crash reported in 2018. It was the 89th fatal crash for 2018.
