Two people killed, two people severely injured near 3000 S LAKE SHORE DR SB in Douglas

A driver and a passenger were killed; and two other passengers were severely injured after a Sunday early morning sideswipe same direction collision in Douglas on September 6, 2020 at 4:27 AM.

The crash occurred near 3000 S LAKE SHORE DR SB, on a one-way road. The posted speed limit was 40 mph. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to improper lane usage; and, secondarily, to disregarding a yield sign.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

  • A 2018 Mitsubishi was heading south while changing lanes. The police report described the driver, an unknown age female, as changing lanes improperly. Her airbag deployed and she was trapped; she was killed. An unknown age male passenger was killed; his airbag deployed and he was trapped. A 35-year-old male passenger reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries; his airbag deployed. A 27-year-old female passenger reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries; her airbag deployed.
  • A vehicle of unknown make was heading south and was hit in the side-left. The police report did not have details about the driver.

Police were notified at 4:27 AM. This was the 268th injurious crash reported in September 2020, and the 9,668th injurious crash reported in 2020. It was the 92nd fatal crash for 2020.
