One person killed, two people severely injured near 9357 S COLFAX AVE in Calumet Heights

A driver was killed and two passengers were severely injured after a Sunday morning hit-and-run angle collision in Calumet Heights on September 25, 2022 at 6:17 AM.

The crash occurred near 9357 S COLFAX AVE, on an undivided road. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a stop sign. It was dawn, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to failing to yield right of way.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

• A 2019 KIA Sportage was heading north. The police report did not have details about the male driver, or his three passengers.
• A 2018 Nissan Altima was heading west. The driver, a 34-year-old man, was killed; his airbag deployed and he was trapped. A 27-year-old female passenger reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries; her airbag deployed from the front. An unknown age female passenger reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries.

Police were notified at 9:09 AM and made a report on scene. This was the 1,226th injurious crash reported in September 2022, and the 11,673rd injurious crash reported in 2022. It was the 97th fatal crash for 2022.
