One person killed near 3001 N SACRAMENTO AVE in Avondale

A driver was killed after a Thursday evening turning collision in Avondale on July 18, 2024 at 5:58 PM.

The crash occurred near 3001 N SACRAMENTO AVE, at a t-intersection. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. The weather was clear and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to failing to reduce speed to avoid a crash; and, secondarily, to failing to yield right of way.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

• A 2006 Toyota BZ4X was heading south. The police report described the driver, an 18-year-old man, as disregarding traffic controls/signals. He was killed. Two other passengers were uninjured.
• A 2012 Mazda MX-3 was heading north while turning right and was hit in the front-right-corner. The driver, a 29-year-old man, was not wearing a seat belt and his airbag did not deploy; he was uninjured.

Police were notified at 5:58 PM and made a report on scene. This was the 983rd injurious crash reported in July 2024, and the 9,782nd injurious crash reported in 2024. It was the 59th fatal crash for 2024.
