One person killed, one person severely injured, and one other person injured near 101 N WACKER DR in The Loop

A passenger was killed and a driver was severely injured after a Thursday night turning collision in The Loop on October 24, 2019 at 9:03 PM. One other person reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.

The crash occurred near 101 N WACKER DR, on a road divided by a median barrier. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to failing to yield right of way; and, secondarily, to failing to reduce speed to avoid a crash.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

• A 2014 Toyota Camry operated as a taxi was heading south while turning left. The police report described the driver, a 37-year-old man, as failing to yield. He was wearing a seat belt and his airbag deployed from the front; he reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries. A 33-year-old male passenger was not wearing a seat belt and his airbag deployed from the front; he was killed. A 32-year-old male passenger was wearing a seat belt and his airbag deployed from the front; he reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.
• A 2016 Ford Mustang was heading north. The driver, a 24-year-old man, was wearing a seat belt and his airbag deployed from the front; he was uninjured. One other passenger was uninjured.

Police were notified at 9:03 PM. This was the 1,147th injurious crash reported in October 2019, and the 13,356th injurious crash reported in 2019. It was the 84th fatal crash for 2019.
