One pedestrian killed, and two other people injured near 5100 S MICHIGAN AVE in Washington Park

A pedestrian was killed after a Thursday evening hit-and-run angle collision in Washington Park on March 25, 2021 at 7:36 PM. 2 other people reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.

The crash occurred near 5100 S MICHIGAN AVE, at a four-way intersection. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was rainy, and the roadway was wet. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to disregarding traffic signals.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

  • A 2007 Lincoln MKS was heading south. The police report described the driver, a 21-year-old man, as disregarding traffic controls/signals. His airbag deployed; he was uninjured.
  • A 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix was heading west and was hit in the front. The driver, a 32-year-old man, reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries; his airbag did not deploy. A 28-year-old female passenger reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries; her airbag did not deploy.

The police report described the pedestrian, a 66-year-old man, as crossing the roadway where there were no traffic controls; he was killed.

There were two other vehicles involved but not being driven:

  • A 2017 Chevrolet Equinox, hit in the side-right-rear.
  • A 2007 Volkswagen, hit in the rear.

Police were notified at 7:36 PM. This was the 842nd injurious crash reported in March 2021, and the 2,711th injurious crash reported in 2021. It was the 21st fatal crash for 2021.
