One person killed, and one other person injured near 1101 S CICERO AVE in Austin

A driver was killed after a Wednesday early morning head on collision in Austin on September 5, 2018 at 3:47 AM. One other person reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.

The crash occurred near 1101 S CICERO AVE, on an undivided road. The posted speed limit was 35 mph. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to failing to reduce speed to avoid a crash; and, secondarily, to road construction/maintenance.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

  • A 1996 Ford Mustang was heading north. The police report described the driver, a 57-year-old man, as going too fast for conditions. He was wearing a seat belt and his airbag deployed from the front; he was killed.
  • A 2005 International operated commercially was heading south and was hit in the front. The driver, a 37-year-old man, was wearing a seat belt and his airbag did not deploy; he reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.

Police were notified at 3:48 AM and made a report on scene. This was the 187th injurious crash reported in September 2018, and the 11,199th injurious crash reported in 2018. It was the 77th fatal crash for 2018.
