One person killed, and four other people injured near 2635 E 122ND ST in South Deering

A passenger was killed after a Thursday early morning turning collision in South Deering on July 19, 2018 at 12:16 AM.

The crash occurred near 2635 E 122ND ST, on a divided road. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to failing to yield right of way; and, secondarily, to failing to reduce speed to avoid a crash.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

  • A 2012 Ford Econoline E350 was heading east while slowing or stopping in traffic. The police report described the driver, a 23-year-old man, as failing to yield. He was wearing a seat belt and his airbag did not deploy; he reportedly suffered unspecified injuries. A 38-year-old female passenger was wearing a seat belt and her airbag did not deploy; she was killed. A 24-year-old female passenger was wearing a seat belt and her airbag did not deploy; she reportedly suffered unspecified injuries. A 33-year-old female passenger was wearing a seat belt and her airbag did not deploy; she reportedly suffered unspecified injuries. A 27-year-old male passenger was wearing a seat belt and his airbag did not deploy; he reportedly suffered unspecified injuries.
  • A 2004 Volvo operated commercially was heading northwest while turning left and was hit in the side-left. The driver, a 55-year-old man, was wearing a seat belt and his airbag did not deploy; he was uninjured.

Police were notified at 12:16 AM. This was the 940th injurious crash reported in July 2018, and the 8,882nd injurious crash reported in 2018. It was the 54th fatal crash for 2018.
