One person killed near 1731 W LAWRENCE AVE in Uptown

A driver was killed after a Tuesday morning sideswipe same direction collision in Uptown on October 1, 2019 at 10:49 AM.

The crash occurred near 1731 W LAWRENCE AVE, on a road divided by a median barrier. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. The weather was clear and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to a driver's physical condition.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

• A 2001 Honda Accord was heading east. The police report described the driver, a 73-year-old man, as being ill or having fainted. He was wearing a seat belt; he was killed. One other passenger was uninjured.
• A 2011 Ford was heading east and was hit in the rear-right. The driver, a 30-year-old man, was wearing a seat belt; he was uninjured.

Police were notified at 11:00 AM and made a report on scene. This was the 8th injurious crash reported in October 2019, and the 12,217th injurious crash reported in 2019. It was the 80th fatal crash for 2019.
