One cyclist killed, one person severely injured near 6300 S KEDZIE AVE in Chicago Lawn

A cyclist was killed and a passenger was severely injured after a Sunday early morning hit-and-run angle collision in Chicago Lawn on April 5, 2026 at 1:08 AM. Police identified this as a dooring incident.

The crash occurred near 6300 S KEDZIE AVE, at a four-way intersection. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to disregarding traffic signals.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

  • A 2015 Ford Explorer was heading east. The police report did not have details about the male driver, or two of his passengers. A 22-year-old female passenger reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries; her airbag deployed from the front. One other passenger was uninjured.
  • A 2006 Honda Civic was heading north and was hit in the front. The driver, a 60-year-old woman, was wearing a seat belt; she was uninjured.

An unknown age male (cyclist) was not wearing a helmet and he was totally ejected. The police report described him as traveling with traffic and disregarding traffic controls/signals; he was killed.

Police were notified at 1:08 AM. This was the 200th injurious crash reported in April 2026, and the 4,120th injurious crash reported in 2026. It was the 22nd fatal crash for 2026.
