A passenger was killed; and a driver and another passenger were severely injured after a Saturday early morning collision with a fixed object in Garfield Park on December 18, 2021 at 2:05 AM. 2 other people reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.

The police report attributed the cause of the crash to reckless, careless, or aggressive driving; and, secondarily, to driving after drinking (no arrest was made).

A 2013 Dodge Grand Caravan was heading west. The police report described the driver, a 41-year-old man, as going too fast for conditions and being under the influence of alcohol. He was not wearing a seat belt and his airbag deployed; he reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries. A 41-year-old female passenger was not wearing a seat belt; she was killed. A 37-year-old male passenger was not wearing a seat belt; he reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries. A 23-year-old female passenger was not wearing a seat belt and her airbag deployed; she reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries. An unknown age passenger was not wearing a seat belt; they reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.

Police were notified at 2:05 AM and made a report on scene. This was the 778th injurious crash reported in December 2021, and the 15,860th injurious crash reported in 2021. It was the 151st fatal crash for 2021.
