One person killed, and five other people injured near 540 N MICHIGAN AVE in Magnificent Mile

A driver was killed after a Thursday early morning angle collision in Magnificent Mile on September 11, 2025 at 4:55 AM. 5 other people reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.

The crash occurred near 540 N MICHIGAN AVE, on a road divided by a median barrier. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to failing to yield right of way.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

• A 2020 KIA Stinger was heading south. The police report described the driver, an unknown age male, as disregarding traffic controls/signals. His airbag deployed; he reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries. A 30-year-old male passenger reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries; his airbag deployed. A 27-year-old male passenger reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries; his airbag deployed. A 35-year-old male passenger reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries; his airbag deployed. A 35-year-old male passenger reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries; his airbag deployed.
• A 2021 Honda CR-V was heading east and was hit in the side-left. The driver, an unknown age male, was killed; his airbag deployed.

Police were notified at 4:55 AM and made a report on scene. This was the 532nd injurious crash reported in September 2025, and the 12,633rd injurious crash reported in 2025. It was the 55th fatal crash for 2025.
