One person killed, one person severely injured near 3547 W 47TH ST in Brighton Park

A driver was killed and a passenger was severely injured after a Saturday early morning collision with a fixed object in Brighton Park on December 11, 2021 at 12:14 AM.

The crash occurred near 3547 W 47TH ST, on a divided road. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. It was dark and the roadway was wet. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to improper overtaking or passing; and, secondarily, to driving after drinking (no arrest was made).

A 2003 Chevrolet Silverado was heading west. The police report described the driver, a 32-year-old man, as going too fast for conditions and being under the influence of alcohol. His airbag deployed from the front; he was killed. An unknown age male passenger was wearing a seat belt; he reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries.

Police were notified at 12:14 AM. This was the 471st injurious crash reported in December 2021, and the 15,553rd injurious crash reported in 2021. It was the 145th fatal crash for 2021.
