One pedestrian killed near 5670 S ARCHER AVE in Garfield Ridge

A pedestrian was killed after a Saturday evening turning collision in Garfield Ridge on May 24, 2025 at 5:30 PM.

The crash occurred near 5670 S ARCHER AVE, at a four-way intersection. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. The weather was clear and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to failing to yield right of way.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

• A 2012 Chevrolet Equinox was heading northeast while turning left. The police report described the driver, a 26-year-old man, as failing to yield. His airbag deployed; he was uninjured. One other passenger was uninjured.
• A 1999 Ford Escort was heading west and was hit in the front. The driver, a 63-year-old man, was uninjured; his airbag deployed. One other passenger was uninjured.

An 84-year-old woman (pedestrian) was in a crosswalk. The police report described her as crossing with the signal; she was killed.
