One person killed, one person severely injured near 5900 S ASHLAND AVE in Englewood

A driver was killed and another driver was severely injured after a Thursday night turning collision in Englewood on November 26, 2020 at 10:21 PM.

The crash occurred near 5900 S ASHLAND AVE, at a four-way intersection. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to failing to yield right of way.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

• A 2006 Jeep Commander was heading northwest while turning left. The police report described the driver, an unknown age male, as failing to yield. His airbag deployed from the front; he reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries.
• A 2018 Nissan Sentra was heading south and was hit in the front. The police report described the driver, a 33-year-old man, as going too fast for conditions and being under the influence of alcohol. His airbag deployed from the front; he was killed.

Police were notified at 10:21 PM. This was the 910th injurious crash reported in November 2020, and the 13,024th injurious crash reported in 2020. It was the 120th fatal crash for 2020.
