Three people killed, two people severely injured near 520 S MICHIGAN AVE in The Loop

Two passengers and a driver were killed; and two other passengers were severely injured after a Sunday night collision with a fixed object in The Loop on September 30, 2018 at 11:59 PM.

The crash occurred near 520 S MICHIGAN AVE, on a road divided by a median barrier. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to distraction from inside the vehicle.

A 2015 Chrysler 300 was heading south. The driver, a 29-year-old man, was killed; his airbag deployed. A 31-year-old male passenger was killed; his airbag deployed. An unknown age male passenger was killed; his airbag deployed. A 29-year-old male passenger reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries; his airbag deployed. A 39-year-old male passenger reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries; his airbag deployed.

Police were notified at 12:05 AM on October 1 and made a report on scene. This was the 1,446th injurious crash reported in September 2018, and the 12,458th injurious crash reported in 2018. It was the 83rd fatal crash for 2018.
