One pedestrian killed, one pedestrian severely injured, and one other person injured near 3859 S INDIANA AVE in Douglas

A pedestrian was killed and another pedestrian was severely injured after a Sunday afternoon collision with a fixed object in Douglas on April 1, 2018 at 4:35 PM. One other person reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.

The crash occurred near 3859 S INDIANA AVE, on a one-way road. The posted speed limit was 30 mph. There was a traffic light. The weather was clear and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to failing to reduce speed to avoid a crash; and, secondarily, to disregarding traffic signals.

A 2007 Saturn Aura was heading north while avoiding vehicles or objects. The driver, a 28-year-old man, reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries; his airbag deployed from the front. One other passenger was uninjured.

A 52-year-old woman (pedestrian) was off the roadway; she was killed.

A 61-year-old man (pedestrian) was off the roadway; he reportedly suffered incapacitating injuries.

Police were notified at 4:35 PM. This was the 20th injurious crash reported in April 2018, and the 3,561st injurious crash reported in 2018. It was the 23rd fatal crash for 2018.
