Three people killed, and two other people injured near 1448 W 112TH PL in Morgan Park

Two passengers and a driver were killed after a Wednesday night turning collision in Morgan Park on January 1, 2020 at 11:18 PM. 2 other people reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries.

The crash occurred near 1448 W 112TH PL, at a four-way intersection. The posted speed limit was 35 mph. There was a traffic light. It was dark but with streetlights, the weather was clear, and the roadway was dry. The police report attributed the cause of the crash to improper overtaking or passing.

There were two motor vehicles involved in the crash:

• A 2013 Nissan Versa was heading north while passing another vehicle. The police report described the driver, a 30-year-old woman, as attempting to pass improperly. She was wearing a seat belt and her airbag deployed from the front; she was killed. A 56-year-old female passenger was wearing a seat belt and her airbag deployed from the front; she was killed. A 28-year-old female passenger was wearing a seat belt and her airbag deployed from the side; she was killed.
• A 2013 Nissan Juke was heading north while turning left and was hit in the front-left-corner. The police report described the driver, a 61-year-old woman, as attempting an improper turn. She was wearing a seat belt and her airbag deployed from the front; she reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries. A 20-year-old female passenger was wearing a seat belt and her airbag deployed from the side; she reportedly suffered non-incapacitating injuries. Two other passengers were uninjured.

Police were notified at 11:18 PM. This was the 40th injurious crash reported in January 2020, and the 40th injurious crash reported in 2020. It was the 1st fatal crash for 2020.
